Onyxia Denied, and the Return to Once Was

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Friday, we journeyed into the Lair of the Brood Mother, and learned that what was is no more. After a sound thrashing, amidst rumors that Onyxia herself was a bit “overmuch” of herself, we made it a point to analyze the problem.

A few folks, undergeared, can be pulled through a raid, and usually they can more easily be pulled through a twenty-five or forty-man far easier than a ten-man. It’s simple logic because when you have a few folks that are undergeared, you can usually find a few folks who are more than ready, who make up the difference.

But when one of those people is a healer?

This is a problem that we’ve been encountering for a little while now. The scalpers that still occasionally visit problems on us did their damage, and we find ourselves a little short on geared tanks and healers. And against a new raid, we had the technical knowledge for the fight, but we no longer had the gear to pull it off.

We have since started a new campaign to better gear and prepare our up and coming tanks and healers. Last night, Lumi received four new pieces of gear along with the Direbrewfest and Trials achievements, and today we will focus on a healer that needs a few things in order to really shine.

These things done, we were in a far better position to go back into the Sartharion we dominated with authority after an earlier run failed, and back into the Naxxramas we remember so well, and have cleared so many times. And finally, at long last, Onyxia will fail, and we will be back in Ulduar where we belong.

Freya, I hope you didn’t think we weren’t coming.

Redeemer Machinima Pre-Production

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Thalanaar is excited to announce the creation of March Hare Studios to continue our work on our first official machinima, with a release date set in March 2010. Thanks to the artistic talents made available to us, we’ve already shot the opening sequence, including a rather unlikely first scene featuring one (perhaps) identifiable young girl, who will be telling the first act of our story looking back.

Our opening scene is the familiar starscape from our teaser trailer, coupled with flashback memories from the World of Warcraft that bring us to the attack on Light’s Hope Chapel.  This scene will be expanded on with further flashback sequences before the scene is considered ”closed” for post-production.  In the next scene, we skip ahead three years to the arrival of our young lady, who becomes our storyteller for the remainder of the act, up to our first sojourn into the Dire Maul.

March Hare Studios is holding auditions for our first speaking role, which will involve nine scenes, and two voiceover sequences. We’ll also need two people, whose characters have not yet been cast, to interact with our storyteller.

Returning While We Can…

Thalanaar has created new officer positions and changed two existing ones, in order to preserve gameplay for our lower level members.

We are pleased to welcome Dentark, Komakose, Renardnoir and Novitas to the Development Team. Each officer has been given sway over a specific level range, so that an officer will always have a focus on every kind of event Thalanaar may need for its members.

We are also very pleased to welcome Seiko and welcome back Drake as our World Defense Coordinators. Seiko will see to our Arena efforts, while Drake focuses on world events.

We have also clarified the Roleplay and Admissions officer roles. While any officer can invite an Alt, only the Admissions Coordinator can invite a member who is new to the guild. It ensures that they receive proper instructions and assistance to get to the forums, and list their skills and storyline with us so they can advance with the guild.

Finally, I have taken it upon myself to clarify Evintyde’s position as co-lead. While it is not possible because of game mechanics for Evin to be listed as a guildleader, I have made it as clear as possible to demonstrate that she and I speak with an equal voice. I know that for everything she has done for us in the three years we have known one another, she has certainly earned that implicit trust and respect.

As always, if anyone should have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact any officer to ask.
